Our kitchen cabinets have seen better days, and we need to prep for putting renters in this house probably within the next year, so I thought painting the cabinets was the best solution, but I am not sure what color to paint them. White seems like the obvious choice.  Does anyone have kitchen cabinets painted a color besides white that you like?  If I do go white, do you think I should match the cabinets to the white wall or get a different color white for the cabinets? Also, should it be as glossy as the kitchen walls? Thanks,

My rental has white cabinents and the do not match the walls... FWIW, I would use semi-gloss latex paint most probably a kitchen/bath type paint from a Name brand company (like Sherwin-Williams, Glidden, Behr, Benjamin Moore, Dunn-Edwards, Etc.) Do your self a favor, tint the paint slightly...most pain is NOT designed to be just put on the walls without some kind of tint...however a light tint will appear white to you and will last longer.  Most Home improvement centers even offer custom computer color matching!  All you have to do is bring in a sample of the paint currently on the walls and they can match the new paint ot that color!  All of this is at NO extra cost to you!! My father was a professional painter for over 40 yrs and these tips come from him! Kathy, How old is the house? If it is 50s era, how about white cabinets with red doors. Perhaps a cherries theme or red and white check. My grandparents home (they moved in the 50s) was all red and white and really was very pretty. The vinyl was red and white as well but that's a little much if your cabinets just need a little rejuvenating. White walls would work fine. Maybe paint a red and white check border around the chair rail height or at ceiling level. I would use at least a semi-gloss or perhaps a glossy. This is so much easier to clean and take care of then flat. Since this is going to be a rental you really want to use something they can clean easily and that will not stain easily or you will have to repaint every time a renter leaves. Okay, more help than you asked for, I know. Good look with the remodeling!

My family have green doors which are nice with their colour scheme The curtains are green and the countertops are a very out of _style_ yellow which we may change because there is a crack too.  I think we would change them to butcher block counters to have some wood look in the kitchen still now that the cabinets will not be stained wood anymore.  The floor, walls and appliance fronts are white.
