Hello I will be travelling to South Africa with my new wife in November and we would like to do a game drive for a day or 2. We dont want to take Malaria tablets so we cant go to Kruger and will be spending most of our time around Cape Town and the Garden Route. Does anyone have any experience of the Garden Route Game Lodge? on their web site they claim to have the big 5! We have looked at Shamwari but cannot afford it. does anyone have any good ideas for viewing game in a natural environment that is Malaria free? thanks David Hi David. I've only just recently heard about the Garden Route Game Lodge as well so I can't vouch for it. It's in the Albertinia area as you approach the Garden Route from the direction of Cape Town so perhaps it's worth taking a look while you're in the area. See
http://www.southafricaguides.co.za/albertinia.asp for a bit more about Albertinia. To add to what Samuel Kock said in his reply, the Tsitsikamma National Park is worth a visit while you're in the Garden Route. Tree-top canopy tours, abseiling and river tubing, walks and hiking trails such as the Otter Trail are also in Tsitsikamma NP. Also in the Tsitsikamma area is the world's highest bungee jump at Bloukrans bridge. See
http://www.southafricaguides.co.za/sanparks-tsitsikamma.asp for more about Tsitsikamma. At Knysna you'll also find a host of things to do and see such as the Featherbed nature reserve, Millwood ruins and many walks and trails in the surrounding forests. And lots of oysters too. See

http://www.southafricaguides.co.za/plett.asp for more about Plett as we call it. Plett is about 230 Kms from Port Elizabeth mentioned by Samuel. The Friendly City is a nice place to go to, I used to live there years ago and sometimes still wonder why I left! If you like sailing, surfing, windsurfing, swimming, diving etc. then PE should be on your itinerary. See
http://www.southafricaguides.co.za/portelizabeth.asp for more about PE as we call it. Addo Elephant National Park mentioned by Samuel is about 73 Kms from PE. See
http://www.southafricaguides.co.za/addo.asp for more about Addo. A few nights ago on the news it was mentioned that a few lions have been re-introduced at Addo. At the moment they're still in an enclosure in order to get used to the area but they'll be set free soon. Addo will then be a Big 5 reserve too. The Mountain Zebra National Park is near Cradock which is about 250 Kms from PE via the N2 and then the N10. I've seen several reports that game viewing is quite good there as it is relatively speaking a small reserve and game is more concentrated and easier to find. See
