There's one detail that has kind of bothered me in Civilization, and also in Civ2. There is a city improvement called the Hydro Dam, and then there is a Wonder of the World called the Hoover Dam. Now, I understand the fact that, when the time came for Sid Meier to choose a specific hydroelectric dam after which to name the Wonder of the World, he picked an American dam, simply because he's American. But, being myself a Paraguayan, I can't help feeling that he might as well have chosen the Itaipu dam, located on the Parana river on the Brazil-Paraguay border. The dam is two kilometers long, and at 12.6 gigawatts it has the highest output for any power plant in the world (hydroelectric or otherwise). It's not as if I hope this message will have any effects, mind you. Except earning me a lot of flames from American nationalist zealots. But I just wanted to express an opinion, for whatever it's worth.

Why would anyone want to flame you over the name of a wonder in a computer game? Just change the name to whatever you like. American pride isn't so petty. ...and please don't call me a zealot.

Ah, but what year was the Itaipu dam constructed?    AIDS patients might argue that the Cure for Cancer should be called the Cure for AIDS. As far as U.S. Power output is concerned, I believe Grand Coole (sp?) might be the larger American Dam.  But the way the wonder works, it is interesting that he didn't choose to call it the TVA.   However you can easily modify the name of the Hoover Dam to the Itaipu Dam by changing your rules.txt file.    It won't distract from game play and it would make your game personalized. I mean, my cities usually are named after places I like, not places the game designers like. Michael Mierzwa
